Using Each Other's Words

Abstract:

Natural languages are polyphonic: typically, no two speakers associate identical meanings with all the words they are using. Also, the meanings of words may change over time. Yet we are still missing a formal framework with which to handle this variety. This paper is making a first step by introducing the logic of so-called deflectors. These are devices to borrow someone else's language.
