Description:
The Centre for Language Studies (CLS), one of the research schools at the
Faculty of Letters of the Radboud University in Nijmegen, has a PhD position
available in the English Department for a junior researcher to investigate the
diachronic development of the progressive in early Modern English (ca.
1500-1700). This position is part of a larger research project, Syntax and
Information Structure: Discourse Options after the Loss of Verb-Second.
Requirements:
An MA degree in English Language, in Linguistics or in a related field
Preferably a specialization in historical linguistics, with some experience in
corpusbased quantitative research.
The Organization:
The Centre for Language Studies is one of the two research institutes at the
Faculty of Arts, Radboud University Nijmegen. It has a staff of around 70 FTEs,
including some 35 PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. About 45% of our
research projects are externally funded, three of which have been granted
prestigious EURYI/ERC awards. CLS received an outstanding research assessment in
2006. Focussed on broadly theoretically based empirical research and affiliated
with the on-campus Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics and Donders
Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, it provides a stimulating research
climate and excellent opportunities for graduate training.
Conditions of Employment:
Maximum employment: 1,0 fte
The gross starting salary is ?2,000 per month based on full-time employment.
Duration of the contract: Initial contract for 18 months, with possible
extension by 2 years.
