Practical Info

Venue, transportation:

The symposium, following the tradition of the first meetings in the 1980s, will take place in the Hungarian countryside, in a hotel with conference facilities, to provide the participants the possibility for discussion in a more informal setting. The venue of the 2009 symposium is Hotel Szemes, situated on the south coast of Lake Balaton, about 140 km southwest from Budapest. Since the hotel has a large garden as well as a beach, all participants can enjoy their spare time there. The conference site can be found on Google Maps.

Balaton, the biggest lake of Hungary is a popular holiday destination, offering plenty of opportunities for either eco-tourism or cultural tourism. Possible activities include boat trips, wine tasting, excursions. As usual, we will organize one such occasion for the participants. Getting to the conference location:

There will be a bus taking participants to the conference site from the Research Institute for Linguistics on the afternoon of August 26. The planned departure time is 15:00. If you know that you won't be able to make it to the Institute before the departure time, please let the organizers know. You can get to the railway station of Balatonszemes on direct trains leaving from Budapest Déli Pályaudvar (South Station) in the direction of Nagykanizsa. The timetable of the Hungarian State Railways (MAV) can be searched here. If you know in advance that you will be taking the train, please let us know. In the event that you accidentally miss the bus on August 26, we will provide you with the phone numbers of the organizers who can help you arrange your transport to the conference site. Accommodation:

In Hotel Szemes, accommodation for the conference participants will be in double rooms. These rooms can be occupied either by one or two persons. If you wish to share a room with another participant, please let us know when you send your registration information. Partners not attending the conference and children are also welcome. (Please ask us for details if you are interested in such possibilities.)

Excursion:

We will organize a half-day excursion in the afternoon of August 28. Further information coming soon.
