The purpose of the Lendület (‘Momentum’) Research Group for Computational Latin Dialectology is to intensify and possibly complete the research carried out in the OTKA-project “Computerized Historical Linguistic Database of Latin Inscriptions of the Imperial Age” so far, which aims at developing and digitally publishing (at http://lldb.elte.hu/ ) a comprehensive, computerized historical linguistic database that contains and manages the Vulgar Latin material of the inscriptions found in some European areas of the Roman Empire. In the framework of the present proposal the territorial scope of the database will be expanded to those European and African areas of the Roman Empire that are richest in inscriptions. Since there is no other database of the Vulgar Latin material of the Roman inscriptions, either in a printed or in a digital format, this unique Database will allow for a more thorough study of the regional changes and the differentiation of the Latin of the Imperial Age, and for a multilayer visualization of the discovered structures concerning linguistic geography.
